William Edward Leuchtenburg (född 28 september 1922) är William Rand Kenan Jr. professor emeritus i historia vid University of North Carolina i Chapel Hill . Han är en ledande forskare i Franklin Delano Roosevelts liv och karriär .

Karriär

Leuchtenburg föddes i New York City den 28 september 1922. I Ken Burns dokumentärserie Prohibition beskrev han, när han var barn, hur hans far rapporterades för att ha drivit ett olagligt destilleri under förbudstiden . Han tog sin BA -examen 1943 från Cornell University , där han blev upptagen i Phi Beta Kappa Society. Han doktorerade senare från Columbia University 1951.

Han vann 2007 North Carolina Award for Literature.

Han fungerade som programkonsult för Ken Burns dokumentärserie Prohibition , som hade premiär på PBS i oktober 2011.

Han är tidigare president för American Historical Association , Organization of American Historians och Society of American Historians . Eric Foner är den enda andra historikern som hävdar den skillnaden.
