Den 1979 NCAA Division II fotbollssäsongen , en del av college fotboll i USA som anordnades av National Collegiate Athletic Association på division II -nivå, började i augusti 1979 och avslutades med fotbolls-EM NCAA Division II i december 1979 vid University Stadium i Albuquerque, NM . Under spelets tvååriga sträcka i New Mexico kallades det Zia Bowl . Den Delaware Fightin' Blue Hens besegrade Youngstown State Penguins , 38-21, för att vinna sin första division II nationella titel.
